National Wildlife Refuge Week
The Texas Mid-Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex will offer special
programs to celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week October 7-13, 2007.
The week-long celebration is part of a year-long commemoration of the
100th birthday of pioneering conservationist and writer Rachel Carson.
On October 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. is an opportunity for all ages
to discover the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. Activities include
guided van tours of Moccasin Pond, live reptiles activities for kids,
and a guided tour of the largest live oak in Texas. The San Bernard Oak
tour will be given from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. All activities are free.
Volunteer Work Day
Also on October 6, a volunteer workday will be taking place at the San
Bernard National Wildlife Refuge from 8:00 a.m. till noon. Volunteers
should meet at the trailhead to Bobcat Woods Trail and bring gloves for
trail maintenance. A sandwich lunch will be served at 12:00 noon.
