Friends of the River San BERNARD HOPE TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND FUNDS

What do you see as the future of the San Bernard River? Friends Of the River San Bernard (F.O.R. San Bernard) see it as a legacy to future generations. The San Bernard River affects all communities west of the Brazos and many other people throughout the county and state - who have enjoyed fishing, skiing or just a scenic sunset glistening on the water. F.O.R. Is working hard to restore, protect and promote this natural habitat, but it takes money. That being said, all friends of the river need to do their part in helping the river and its community. So, F.O.R. Is raising public awareness and funds at the second annual River Raiser, on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 20632 N. Highway 36 in Brazoria from noon to 3 p.m.

F.O.R. Is expanding our activities for the community and the river, like water quality testing, education and raising awareness of the impacts of the up-river flood studies and development to the San Bernard water shed in Brazoria County as we remain vigilant in our current efforts to open the river mouth, and conduct clean-ups, parades and public meetings. Funds need to be secured to keep the wheels of progress rolling forward. So, this event is planned with the whole family in mind- there will be something for everyone. There will be a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, live entertainment by Ronnie Coleman, and several free children's activities such as a Moonwalk, face painting, and a clown. And for those of us who remember when, James Drury (The Virginian of TV fame) will be onsite signing autographs for a donation to F.O.R. And if all this fun is not enough, we will have a silent and live auction.

The dinner will consist of roast beef, salad, carrots, potatoes, beans, iced tea (or soft drinks) and home made cakes, all for just a $10.00 donation. Children under 10 eat free. If you don't already have your ticket, you can get one at the door, or contact Marilyn Shockley at 979-482-0368, any board member and they'll ensure you don't go hungry!

Once dinner has been served, the live auction the live auction featuring auctioneer, Jarrod Smith, and the real fun begins. A full (and updated) list of auction items can be previewed on the River Raiser tab above. We will also have a drawing for: a 42 inch Toshiba LCD flat screen HDTV, LyfeTyme Bar-B-Q pit, and a Hot Air Balloon Ride for Two.

The River Raiser is our only community fund raiser for the entire year and F.O.R.’s social event for the month of October. Grab your neighbor, your family and your friends and have a good time, enjoy a mouth-watering meal and spend a little of your hard earned money with a purpose – the future of the San Bernard River.
