Friends Of the River San Bernard Present
2nd Annual July 4th Boat Parade

Last year, the sky was cloudy, and the fireworks were rained out at River’s End. But even a little thunder didn’t stop thirty decorated boats from lining up for F.O.R.’s 1st Annual July 4th Boat Parade. The weather cleared up and the parade was a huge success. This year, an even bigger turnout is expected.

On Saturday, July 7th, F.O.R. presents their 2nd annual July 4th San Bernard boat parade which will begin at the Churchill Bridge (F.M. 2611) and meander past the High 5 Bar and Grill (where the judges will be stationed on the dock) on down to 2J’s Café and Marina where there will be an awards banquet. The banquet will feature hot dogs with all the trimmings. All parade participants are invited to the banquet where the winners will be announced and door prizes given away. Bring a cooler with your favorite beverage.

The parade is open to everyone; there is no entry fee. Any kind or size of boat or jet ski can be decorated and entered in the parade.Plaques will be given for the following categories:Best Spirit, Best Sound, Most Patriotic, Most Unusual, BestTheme, and Best Overall.
The parade begins at 5:00, and entered boats should be in the water and ready for parade line-up, at the Churchill Bridge, by 4:30 p.m. Residents living along the parade route are encouraged to decorate their homes, yards, or docks and to sit out in their yards and cheer and wave the boaters on. After the banquet, the boaters can motor down the San Bernard to the intersection of the Intracoastal canal, anchor their boats, apply bug spray (make sure you bring plenty), sit back, and enjoy the River’s End Volunteer Fire Department and many other local fireworks displays that can be seen
from that vantage point. Nothing is more beautiful than watching fireworks exploding in the sky while being mirrored in the waters of the San Bernard River.

Put on your red-white-and-blue thinking-cap, decorate your boat, and help celebrate our country’s birthday on the San Bernard River. For boat entry numbers, and more information (including volunteer information) contact; Jana Gardner at 979-964-4075, Vanessa or Nelson Taylor at 979-964-4402, or just show up at the Captain’s meeting Thursday, July 5th at 7 p.m. at 2J’s Café and Marina.
