Friends Of the River (F.O.R.)
San Bernard
takes pride in their river community by cleaning up
every chance they get! When you turn left off of F.M.
2611 onto F.M. 2918, it won’t take long to see the
“sign of the times”. It announces that Friends Of
the River San Bernard has adopted the 2 miles of
F.M. 2918 from F.M. 2611 to just above C.R. 868 for
litter control.
For a minimum of the
next 2 years (the term of the contract with Texas
Dept. of Transportation), members of F.O.R. will
have the opportunity to serve their river community
and help make it a better place to live, work and
play. How does this help the river? Well, if trash
does not find its way into the river, F.O.R. won’t
need to clean it out OF the river next spring.
Beginning June 1,
2007 through May 25, 2009 F.O.R.
will:
-
Conduct or
attend at least 2 safety meetings concerning
the laws and regulations of the nature of
the clean-up as may be required by the TxDOT
District Engineer. Participants of each
cleanup event MUST attend the safety meeting
prior to helping clean up.
-
Pick
up litter along this road way at least 4
times a year – approximately quarterly.
-
Will
pick up traffic control signs, safety vests
and trash bags from TxDOT and will use them
at each clean-up and then return unused
materials.
-
Bag
trash collected in provided trash bags.
Place them next to the adoption sign and
call TxDOT to pick up after each event.
-
Will
have a first aid kit at every event, have
sufficient water for participants’
refreshment during the event, and provide
adequate supervision for participants
between the ages of 7 -15.
As part of
their service to the community, TxDOT will:
-
Erect 4’ x 4’ sign at each
end of the adopted section with the Group’s
name displayed.
-
Provide
traffic control signs, safety vests, trash
bags, and safety information.
-
Remove filled
trash bags the first work day after the
clean-up event.
-
Remove large, heavy or
hazardous items that F.O.R. members cannot
handle alone.
