Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors for Friends Of the River (F.O.R.) San Bernard, we are proud to announce that because of the efforts of all our friends, the San Bernard River is cleaner by (best guess estimate) 32,200 pounds of trash and heavy debris. We all came back from the clean-up safe and now live and play on a safer, cleaner river. That could not have been accomplished without the help each of you willingly gave the river - and there were 214 of you with 57 different boats of all sizes and shapes. Last year, 164 volunteers with 53 boats cleaned up 26,000 pounds of trash from the San Bernard River and its banks.

But we would be remiss without sending out a special thanks to David Pope for coordinating the event and the following companies, law enforcement, state and county agencies and friends who went out of their way to make the clean-up an unqualified success!

Thank you (in no special order) friends:

ConocoPhillips, BEARS, Republic Waste, Keep Texas Beautiful, Quality Copier, Dido’s, 2J’s Café and Marina, the Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Marine Unit, Brazoria Co. Health Dept. – Environmental, Brazoria Co. Parks Dept., Texas Parks and Wildlife – Law Enforcement Marine Unit, Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. – Fisheries, San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge, Nelson and Vanessa Taylor (who hosted the thank you dinner and worked on the Heavy Debris Team), Tommy Davidson and his tractor, Peggy Davidson and her cooking for the Heavy Debris Team; Mickey Goolsby, Larry Vasek, Bob Bartosh and Billy Bob (who cooked for the appreciation dinner); Gail Brinson, Emily Brinson, Mike Demland, Roy Edwards, Jan Edwards, Darrell Powell, David Hooker, Bob Bartosh, Larry Vacek, Gene Davis, Marilyn Shockley, Neal Graham, Larry Cavaness, Bob Bailey, Mack Minshew, Daniel Aplin, Terry Brown (Brazoria Councilman who donated the soft drinks for the event), and Louie and Chinna Yaklin (who donated a Port-a-let to F.O.R.).

And to every person who donated time, effort, gasoline - THANK YOU! Together, this community has accomplished something to be proud of and our beloved river is better for all your efforts!

One of F.O.R.'s primary functions is to educate the public regarding the issues concerning the San Bernard River and it's Communities. Contact Pat Webb pat@sanbernardriver.com to schedule a guest speaker for your group or special event.
