We will
restore, protect, promote and ensure a clean,
healthy, flowing San Bernard River for the sanity and
enjoyment of present and future generations.

Spring into Clean!
Friends Of the
River (F.O.R.) San Bernard
are looking for old and new friends who are ready to
help with the annual spring cleaning of the San Bernard
River this Saturday, April 28, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. –
3:00 p.m. Volunteers should bring their boats, bug
spray, sun screen, gloves and a willingness to help to
one of the 5 collection sites along the 26 miles of
river due for a spring cleaning. These sites are: the
Hanson Riverside County Park
at Hwy. 35; the public boat ramps at F.M. 521; F.M. 2611
and the end of F.M. 2918; and 2J’s Café and
Marina
off of F.M. 2918.
Volunteers can sign a release form; get a Clean-Team
t-shirt, some trash bags and water or soft drink
refreshment. There will be an appreciation dinner for
those participating in the April 28th event directly
after the clean-up from 4 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the
Taylor’s home at 2909 C.R. 604.
Over 100 people have committed to help clean up the
every day trash (plastic bags, drink cans, Styrofoam
containers, etc.) that end up in the river. The Heavy
Debris Days scheduled April 20 and 23 have already
gotten approximately 7,000 pounds of heavy debris (old
tires, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.) out of the
river. More people to clean = more trash out of the
river. Every friend’s help makes the river a better
place to live, play, or work.
During the event, boats from the Brazoria Co.
Sheriff’s Dept., Brazoria Co. Health
-Environmental,
Texas Parks and
Wildlife – Enforcement, Texas Parks and Wildlife -
Fisheries,
and the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge will
be on the river helping out and helping keep the river
safe for the volunteers cleaning the river banks.
Sincere thanks go out to BEARS (owner/operator,
Kenny McGehee), who donated the use of the dumpsters for
the clean up event; Republic Waste (Steve
Carroll) who donated the disposal of the debris for the
clean-up, and 2J’s Café and Marina who allowed us
to put a large dumpster on their property for this
event. Thanks also go out to ConocoPhillips, who
donated the t-shirts and the trash bags; and to Brazoria
Councilman, Terry Brown, who donated the cases of water
for the April 28th event.
