Nominations for F.O.R. San Bernard Board of Directors Requested

Hello Friends Of the River !

I am writing to introduce myself, Keith Hardwicke, your friendly nominating chair of F.O.R. Those of you who think you don’t know me- you probably really do. I am chatting on the website and following other people’s business and concerns on an extra routine basis. Though I reside in Houston, I would try to live on the San Bernard River. I have a weekend home near the Churchill Bridge, but that still does not seem quite enough. I strive to attend as many F.O.R. functions as possible because I love that river and support the F.O.R. mission. I love parties, outdoors, and "motivating" politicians.

I have painstakingly wondered what the nominating chair is responsible for, as I’m sure you have as well. When I looked nominating chair up in the dictionary I found:

Nominate (nom-uh-nate) verb To suggest that someone would be the right person to do a job or to receive an honor nominating, nominated.

Chair (chair) noun a piece of furniture that you sit on, with a seat, legs, and a back. Verb to take charge of a meeting.

So as I continued to ponder, I realized that I should be taking charge of asking people of F.O.R. to step up to the plate and nominate yourself or another for a coveted position on the board of directors for 2007-2008. All the while, I will do this from the comfort of my own chair.

F.O.R. represents an organization that is dear to my heart. I will continue to support the mission and hold the annual election for its board of directors. As you ponder my position and wonder if it is something right for you, begin thinking of others who might be friends, neighbors, relatives, or general good ‘ole people who share my mission of support and attitude and are right for this job.

I am openly and actively seeking nominations for five new board positions for the year 2007-2008.

You may review the nomination procedures below.

Sincerely,

Keith Hardwicke

Nominations for F.O.R. San Bernard Board of Directors Requested

The permanent Board of Directors will be comprised of no more than fifteen persons. Each year, five positions on the board rotate off and their positions will be up for vote. Only one family member can serve on the board, or run for an open board position. Each board member may only serve two consecutive terms - or a maximum of six years - and then must vacate the position for at least one year before being eligible to serve on the board for a third time.

Board candidates do not have to live on the river to be considered for election.
Candidates for election must, however, be interviewed and qualified by the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee is made up of Chairman, Keith Hardwicke, committee volunteers, and the retiring members of the current Board. The Nominating Committee will contact the potential nominees for election to determine their individual capabilities, goals for the F.O.R. San Bernard organization and willingness to fulfill the commitments and responsibilities of a board member. The cut off date for nominations is August 15th which allows the Nominating Committee sufficient time to qualify each candidate, and add them to the ballot for the September election.

It's not to early to be thinking of your choice for board nominations. This is YOUR chance to be more involved in F.O.R. San Bernard. If you are interested in serving on the board, or if you know someone who would be interested in serving, get their name and contact information to the Nominating Committee. Once all of the candidates are identified, a questionaire will be sent to them, a ballot for the election will be developed, and will be handed out for voting, at the September election. Each qualified nominee will be given the opportunity to state why they feel they should be elected to serve on the Board of Directors. Those persons obtaining the most votes will become the five new board members. Nominations will not be taken at the September election and write-in candidates will not be counted.

So think about your choices now-

This is your opportunity to elect YOUR Friends Of the River Board of Directors!
