Friends of the River San
BERNARD HOPE
TO “RAISE” PUBLIC AWARENESS… AND FUNDS
What do you see
as the future of the
San
Bernard
River?
Friends Of the River San Bernard
(F.O.R. San Bernard) see it as a legacy
to future generations. The
San
Bernard
River
affects all communities west of the
Brazos
and many other people throughout the county
– and state - who have enjoyed fishing,
skiing or just a scenic sunset glistening on
the water. F.O.R. is working hard to
restore, protect and promote this natural
habitat, but it takes money. That being
said, all friends of the river need to do
their part in helping the river and its
community. So, F.O.R. is raising
public awareness and funds at, River
Raiser, on October 21, 2006.
The event will consist of a roast beef
dinner (with all the trimmings) and live
and silent auctions
at the
1933 Brazoria Heritage's
old
school Gymnasium from
4
to
7 p.m - located
on the corner of Smith and Brooks (Hwy. 36)
in Brazoria.
Since the very
beginning of this organization back in
February, operating expenses have come out
of the pockets of the organizers, donations,
donations for F.O.R. merchandise and
Boat Parade sponsors. Some of the most
important (and expensive) items donations
have paid for are fees associated with the
group’s incorporation and places for
meetings As F.O.R. moves toward
bigger and better things for the community
and the river, funds need to be secured to
keep the wheels of progress rolling forward.
If you want to
help before the dinner, you can contact a
board member or call Teresa Schlumpberger at
979-964-3889 and get a couple of chances on
the Friends Of the River raffle
tickets. The raffle items are: 1st
Prize – a charter offshore fishing trip
for up to 5 persons donated by Captain
Elliot’s Party Boats, Inc and F.O.R.;
2nd Prize – a 20’ aluminum
flag pole with a 3’ x 5’ flag installed
locally donated by Gardner & Martin; and
3rd Prize – a $250.00 Visa
Gift Card donated by F.O.R. Only
2,000 raffle tickets were printed and are
available for a donation of $5.00 a ticket,
or 5 tickets for $20.00.
The dinner
consists of roast beef, salad, beans,
potatoes, iced tea (or soft drinks) and home
made cakes – all for just a $10.00 donation.
If you don’t already have your ticket, you
can get one at the door, or contact Marilyn
Shockley at 979-482-0368, and board member,
or 964-3889 or 964-4503 and they’ll ensure
you don’t go hungry!
Once dinner has
been served, the live auction (and the real
fun) begins. A sampling of auction items
collected to date include the following: A
