Great News on the River!
Friends Of the River San Bernard Board of Directors is proud to introduce you to the very first officers of the newly formalized organization. At its first Board of Directors meeting, Thursday, October 12, 2006, the following slate of officers were elected by acclamation:
President – Pat Webb Vice-President – Tom Valliere
The Board of Directors meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Brazoria City Hall.
So – if that news is not good enough, F.O.R. would also like to announce that when F.O.R.’s mail was picked up, Saturday, October 14, 2006, we received the news we have all worked so hard to hear. On Saturday, F.O.R. received formal notification from the IRS that we have now officially gained our 501(c) 3 status. Thanks go out to the original Organizing Committee - especially to Lynn Klement (F.O.R.’s attorney who prepared the articles of incorporation and by-laws pro bono) and Nancy Kanter (who prepared the application). In less than a year, River Friends have gone from a loose knit group trying to better the status of the river, to becoming a formal non-profit organization benefiting the San Bernard River! The non-profit status could not have come at a better time – just a week before F.O.R.’s first fund raiser, River Raiser. That means everyone who donates auction items, or gives donations to receive the items can claim a tax deduction to the extent of IRS rules for a public charity. !
Congratulations, Friends Of the River, we have officially arrived!
