The
River Raiser planning meeting
at Dido's Thursday night (10-5) was
attended by over 30 enthusiastic
volunteers. New folks joined us, which
was great! We need to
continue spreading raffle and meal
tickets - and the word - to all our
friends, family and acquaintances. The
River Raiser committee is open
to suggestions (such as flier
distribution) in this regard.
The new meal ticket sales chair is
Marilyn Shockley (964-3351),and she will
be happy to get tickets to you (so you
can collect donations in your
neighborhood) . Ticket donations will be
accepted at Stewart's grocery
on October 14th and at Churchill grocery
on the 7th and 14th. Teresa
Schlumpberger (964-3889) is the chair of
the raffle tickets. She reported that
she has 1250 of 2000 tickets in the
hands Friends Of the River. We
must collect donations for these tickets
to cover our cost of the raffle items
and make it a success. Although food
chair, Pat Webb could not be there, the
wheels are in motion to provide a
fantastic roast beef dinner with all the
trimmings. Special thanks go to Pete
Smirch for his help! If you want to
help with the meal, cakes still need to
be donated and brought on the day of
the event for dessert. Call Pat at 964-
4503, if you would like to donate a
dessert. Currently there are 40+
wonderful auction items (see the
River Raiser tab on the web for a
complete listing). These items have
been generously donated by Friends Of
the River but more items are always
welcome. Give Nancy a call (964-3696) if
you have an auction item. It appears
enough items will be donated to have a
live and silent
auction.
The River Raiser
Committee will be at the gym at the old
school in Brazoria by noon on October
21st. If you can lend an hour or so,
volunteers are still needed to move
tables and chairs on the day of the
event. Your assistance with set up is
greatly appreciated.
As the River Raiser is on
the last day of the county fair and this
is the first year for this event, the
committee does not know the full impact
on attendance. But, our event is from 4
p.m. to 7 p.m., and the committee does
not expect much negative impact. Since
the conception of the River Raiser
idea, many good suggestions were
offered so, the event should
be successful. But, to insure that
success, it will take the efforts of
YOU ... Friends
Of the River. If you would like
to volunteer, or just lend a hand, call
any chairman or me @ 964-3696.
Thank you,
Fred
Kanter
p.s. Keith gets the most enthusiastic
F.O.R. River Raiser award ... He was so
excited that he took the volunteer sheet
home
with him, after the meeting, to study
it and see what else he could volunteer
to do.
