This will be a
nice fishing area during the fall fishing
runs for folks looking for public access to
fishing in the
Intracoastal
Canal.
Upper
River
Public Boat Access:
The public
boat ramp at the S.H. 35 bridge over the
San
Bernard
River
has been closed for quite some time.

This is
the old boat ramp hidden by weeds and
destroyed by construction
Since the
TXDOT work on the new bridge and roadway
thru that area is soon to be completed, work
on the replacement boat ramp and parking
areas can begin. Our Brazoria County Parks
Department is already working on the
property lease with TXDOT and on the
Texas
Parks
and Wildlife Grant for the construction. The
grant request will be submitted in October
and the TP&W meets in January 2007 to review
the submitted request. Decisions on what
will happen will be next spring and it looks
very good that we will have a new ramp
facility next year on the north end of the
river. The money for these grants comes from
fuel taxes in
Texas.
Here are
photos of the public boat ramp at F.M. 2004
and Bastrop Bayou. This is similar to what
may be built at the Hwy 35 and
San
Bernard
River.

Bastrop
Bayou.
This
design is very user friendly and is
completely accessible to those with limited
mobility or handicapped.
The
Brazoria County Parks Department is also
working with the TP&W on the placement of
new signs at the ramp areas. I’ve asked for
more information about the signs, sponsors
and additional sign space for notices. An
example of sign verbiage is: “F.O.R. San
Bernard Events”.
In addition
to all the improvements listed above,
Security features using digital cameras will
be installed. These camera set-ups will
allow our Parks Department and Sheriff’s
officers to have additional tools to catch
people who dump and vandalize the public
boat ramps and parks.

ramp
These
cameras have remote monitoring and recording
capability but cost about $800 plus per
installation. It is hoped that cost of these
installations can be recovered by fines and
restitution of damages to our public
facilities.
