On Thursday, June 23rd, Jan and Roy Edwards, Mark Hazelrigg, Artie Burnett and I took Doug Miller and his cameraman Frank McBride of Channel 11 (CBS) news on a tour of the river mouth. Doug had phoned Jan and Roy the previous week and set up the schedule to come see and report on the problems we face with the closing of the mouth.

We left Jan and Roy's house at 10:30 Thursday morning, heading up river to talk about and look at the several now defunct businesses on the river. The businesses have shut down as a direct result of the closing of the mouth and the inability to get to the gulf from the river or from the decline in fisheries as a result of the lost tidal movement.

We then proceeded to the mouth of the river, pointing out the many changes which have occurred over the last decade or so, the moving of the inter-coastal waterway many years ago and the area where the old hotel used to be. As we traveled toward the mouth, Roy supplied Doug with an excellent orientation of the problems we face, the support we are receiving and the solutions we are seeking.

After arriving at the "Dig" location, we trekked to the beach where we played show and tell to the two ,of where, when, what and how the mouth got to it's present dilemma . Much film was shot as we walked and talked.

We headed to the end of the river where the mouth would be if we had one,

and did more point and shoot explanations there.

Doug and Frank seemed genuinely interested and concerned about the situation. After a time, we left the end of the river and began the long journey back to the boat for drink and shade. We next headed up to 2J's restaurant for a fine lunch where more talk of better days on the San Bernard came easily from the group of river dwellers.  We  then returned to Jan and Roys house around 3pm and Doug and Frank headed back to Houston to tell our story. It was a good day. Many thanks to Doug and Frank and Channel 11 news for their concern for the San Bernard.
