Today, Jan and I attended the monthly meeting of the Brazoria County
Shoreline Restoration Task Force. Copies of the original drafts for
state project nominations under the Coastal Impact Assistance
Program (CIAP) were distributed for comments and corrections before
being submitted by the June 20, 2006 deadline.
Brazoria County is submitting several projects for grant
consideration under this program. Among them is the San Bernard sand
study necessary to open the river mouth. As the wording for Brazoria
County’s application is not yet finalized, it is not ready to be
publicly discussed at this time. However, it will be ready to be
submitted on or before the June 20 deadline.
Once all completed applications competing for the CIAP funds are
submitted to the committee overseeing the funds (made up of members
of the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Railroad Commission and
the Texas Department of Transportation), they will be reviewed to
determine which projects meet the federal guidelines. Those projects
will be sent grant application forms. Only those projects receiving
the grant applications will be considered for the CIAP funds for
2007. The funds will not be available for use until all grants have
been awarded and the funds have been awarded to the coastal counties
-sometime in the third quarter of 2007.

It is with great
regret that Eileen and Buddy Kenneda have
submitted their resignation from the organizing
committee effective June 9, 2006. Eileen is
training Darrell Powell for the position of
webmaster. Darrell is a full time river
resident near Bernard Acres. He is a retired
computer programmer and will be a great asset to
FOR San Bernard. Eileen can attest that this is
a major endeavor (time, talent and energy). We
really appreciate Darrell for stepping up to the
plate. We will miss Eileen and Buddy in the
final tasks of FOR's formation. Eileen has put
her heart and soul into this organization with
her intelligence and 'big picture' thinking.
They will be missed.
