Public invited to learn about Coastal Impact
Assistance Program
$240 million in coastal funding to be awarded through program
AUSTIN
— The Texas General Land Office will host public meetings in
Galveston on May 24th and Corpus Christi on May 25th
to discuss the process for awarding funding under the Texas
Coastal Impact Assistance Program.
The Coastal Impact
Assistance Program aims to mitigate the impact of energy
exploration and production along the Outer Continental Shelf.
Funding will be available through the program from 2007 to 2010.
Section 384 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 authorized the
program.
At the public
meetings, Land Office staff will review the plan development
process, timeline, project nomination process and the evaluation
criteria to be used in identifying funding priorities. The
meetings are intended to assist agencies, counties and eligible
entities in setting priorities and developing competitive
projects as well as outline the funding process by reviewing the
program draft guidelines.
Possible uses of CIAP
funds include:
Conserving,
protecting or restoring coastal areas, including wetlands
Mitigating
damage to fish, wildlife, or natural resources
Implementing
a federally approved marine, coastal or comprehensive
conservation management plan
Mitigating
the impact of Outer Continental Shelf activities through funding
of onshore infrastructure projects and public service needs.
