Today, April 25, the Brazoria County Health Dept., Brazoria County Heavy
Equipment folks, Waste Management and several members of our “F.O.R. San Bernard” started the cleanup on the site known as the Junk Yard
or The Dump (by the Tow Boat Capt.’s and many locals) on the San
Bernard River.
This site was reported in last Sunday’s Facts newspaper and should have a follow up article in tomorrow’s Sunday paper. We knew there were many refrigerators and appliances dumped at that site. We also thought there were only 2 vehicles dumped at that site but found that there are at least 5 vehicles because we pulled and/or counted the steering columns and steering wheels as they were exposed by the heavy equipment. The Brazoria County Health Department - Environmental Officers Rodney Garrett and Jeff Mink were there during the cleanup today. They should have their own Brazoria County Environmental Boat in a few weeks to begin helping with this type of cleanup of major dump sites along our River and all around Brazoria County. Because of the huge amount of debris found today they are thinking of planning a Barge type of cleanup along locations like this on the San Bernard River. Everyone is encouraged to report the sites that need major cleanup and especially anyone spotted dumping at our Boat Ramps.
