Today, (Wednesday) Roy Edwards, Mark Hazelrigg and I took Richard Stewart and photographer, Myra, both from The Chronicle in Houston, on a tour of the river mouth.

We picked them up at the Rivers End boat ramp at 11 am, and took them as far as we could go down river. We parked the boat, got out and walked to the end of the river.  (I would say mouth, but we all know we don't have one of them YET).

After quite a lengthy orientation of what was and what is, several hundred photographs, and a long windy trek back to the boat, we went to 2J's and had lunch. We picked up Jan Edwards on the way and a package Roy and Jan had put together for them. There was much talk and show and tell at the restaurant.

We then proceeded to Daniel Aplin home, where they talked to him about the only industry left on the river. ...another couple hundred pictures.

Richard said he had enough information to do a series of articles from this, and wanted Myra, the photographer, to get in a plane and do some aerial photos.

This all to say that it appeared to us that he was quite interested in our woes and seemed to want to help. This is a good thing.

I just wanted to let you all know what went on. By the way, Richard got his initial spark from reading the web site, once again showing what a very powerful tool this is.  He will use the web site for some of his reference for the article, I'm sure.

Great News Update from Congressman Ron Paul

Tom Lizardo, Chief of Staff for Congressman Ron Paul, has just sent us some promising news about appropriations requests for Fiscal year 2007:

"We have begun submitting our FY 07 E&W requests. The Mouth of the San Bernard has gone in and is the #2 priority (out of about 50 projects) for this office this year."

Everyone keep your fingers crossed. We know requesting is not getting, but you have to ask for something before it can be granted.
Good Luck, Congressman Paul.

Today's River Quotation

Questions have been submitted to the OC. The following questions were asked:

1. How and when will officers be selected?

2. There are meetings about the Mouth of the San Bernard and Quintana Beach restoration coming up. Why has there been no news or e-mails about these very important meetings about our River ? I understand that Eileen has been out of town but does anyone else have news ? There have been no post in the discussion area or direct e-mails.

3. What info do we have about the Energy Bill payments to the State of Texas that may be passed to Brazoria County? Has anyone checked with the Texas GLO or RR Commission about info and estimates of these distributions ?
