The Spring Cleanup Kickoff Meeting took place at Dido's last night with David Pope leading us again.

Here are some notes from that meeting:

• The Spring Cleanup will be Saturday, April 29th. This is the same day as Brazoria County's Beach Cleanup so their crews can haul our trash away as well. Also Brazoria County will mention our event in some of their promotions.

• Last year, we had 3 zones, cleaned 12 miles, with 37 boats and 130 volunteers.  This year we are planning to cover all the way to the Mouth of the River, adding zones to accomplish that.

• After the event, Nelson and Vanessa Taylor will host a free BBQ dinner for the volunteers.

• Conoco Phillips will again sponsor free t-shirts for volunteers. These are great shirts too! They will be the same as last year and undated. If you still have yours from last year, you can considering wearing that one.

• We have donated trash bags from Conoco-Phillips and National River Cleanup Week.

• We have Zone Captains and we need boats to sign up. It doesn't involve getting your boat really dirty; heavy debris will be picked up by the Heavy Debris Team.  Zone  are:

  • Zone 1: Rivers End. Area of Rivers End Community

  • Zone 2: Lower River. From 521 Bridge to south of FM 2611 bridge
    Captains in this zone will be Fred and Nancy Kanter.

  • Zone3: Mid River. From Phillips barge docks to FM 521 bridge
    Captains in this zone will be Nelson & Vanessa Taylor.

  • Zone 4: Upper River: From Phillips barge docks to Hanson Park
    Captain in this zone will be Tom Valliere
